Though I have never seen it, I'm told that the Niagara River has a couple of
interesting signs upstream of the famous falls. There is one by the side of the river
visible to daredevil boaters that reads, "Do you have an anchor?" Then just
downstream is a second sign that says, "Do you know how to use it?"
"Do you have an anchor?" I have found that a solid anchor is indispensable to one
who intends to live life fully. To have an anchor is to be centered and
well-grounded. It is to have a vital spiritual base.
"Do you know how to use it?" For no amount of faith is enough if it is not used.
We all come to what has been described as the "Red Sea place" in our lives. That is
the place where there is no way back and no way around. We have to go through.
You know the places I mean. We find ourselves up against a critical loss, an
irreversible setback or a course of action that cannot be changed. There is no way
back and no way around. We have to go through.
Even a small ship can weather major storms if it has an anchor. But it is likely to be
tossed about and even capsized if the anchor is not used.
What will you do when you get to the next "Red Sea place" in your life? Do you
have an anchor? Do you know how to use it?
C H A N G E : There you grow again
Choice: See the gift of the "accidents" that befall you as the lesson of "choice."
Know that you choose your own way.
Honor: If you were to read your own obituary today, what would it say? Honor
yourself by coming to know your passions, and you'll come to know your purpose.
Affirmation: A dream committed to paper (as an affirmation) and committed to the
mind (as a picture) becomes an attainable milestone. As you repeat them,
affirmations become part of you. They change you. (And they can change the
world.)
Now: Time is fleeting. Time is irreversible and irreplaceable. To master your time,
first, spend time every day in solitude. Second...act! LIFE is short for all of us.
Tomorrow is not a better day to begin. Do not wait until after lunch. Start NOW.
Goal: Small steps, pursued daily, will achieve the grandest of results. To climb that
mountain, stay focused on the terrain, not the top; expect roadblocks, and persist.
Energy: Life is a group outing. You need others. People are connected by a system
of roots. You are not meant to survive all by yourself. Meet and share -- energy
comes from relationships!
