HEALTH WARNING FOR USERS OF HRT AND THE PILL
Synthetic Hormones Put Millions Of Women At Risk For Cancer And
Other Deadly Diseases
CRUSADOR Investigative Reporter, Pam Klebs, Interviews Best Selling
Author, Dr. Sherrill Sellman, who tells women what they must know about
their hormones
The National Cancer Institute estimates that 38% of women will be
diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. during their lifetime. Some 600,000 US
women are diagnosed with cancer each year, with breast cancer being the
leading cause. Almost one million American women a year receive a
hysterectomy -- 90 percent of which are unnecessary. Fifty percent of them
will be recommended to women who have perfectly healthy ovaries.
According to hormone specialist, Sherrill Sellman, this is a form of castration
for women.
Millions of American women have been conned into believing that synthetic
hormones used in HRT and the Pill are the answer to their female problems.
The most common estrogen being given to women is estradiol, which is the
most carcinogenic. Synthetic hormones contribute to breast, ovarian, and
uterine cancers, cardiovascular disease, fibroids, ovarian cysts,
endometriosis, fatigue, liver disease, impaired thyroid function, lack of libido,
and more.
Sherrill Sellman has become internationally recognized for her incredible
work exposing the intricate web spun to ensnare America’s women into
synthetic hormone dependency. Through her discussions with CRUSADOR
investigative reporter, Pam Klebs, in this revelatory interview, you’ll discover
things about the human body, female and male, that you never knew and that
your doctor probably won’t tell you. Sellman explains that the missing factor
in hormonal balance is not estrogen, but natural progesterone; that
menopausal and perimenopausal symptoms are not about estrogen
deficiency, but estrogen excess; and that tampering with a woman’s
hormones is tampering with her power. You’ll also learn the things you can
do to avoid being trapped.
Pam: Thank you for your time, Sherrill. I know you’re a very busy woman.
You’ve got quite a story to tell about female hormones.
Sherrill: There is a big story about the female hormones. Just about
everything that women believe to be true about their hormones is based on
lies, misinformation, or distortion.
Pam: What happened to your health and what were the reasons you began
researching female hormones?
Sherrill: It all began because of my own personal experience. When I was in
my mid-forties, I was working very hard in my job as a psychotherapist,
working about 70 hours a week and burning the candle at both ends. I
started having persistent anxiety attacks early in the morning. These attacks
would last for a couple of hours. Every night I would wake up with these
anxiety attacks. They were debilitating. Nothing seemed to be able to
resolve them. Fatigue and depression had also been a lifelong struggle. I also
suffered with a range of other symptoms - memory loss, weight gain, no
libido. Women often dismiss many of these symptoms as part of the aging
process. I knew something was really wrong and I set out to find out what to
do so that I could get my life back.
Pam: Society has basically normalized a lot of those red flags. Women need
to pay attention to these signs so that they can begin to take control of their
health. You are an inspiration to all women.
Sherrill: Society has certainly bought into commercialization of disease.
Unfortunately, I had been ignoring my symptoms. I finally “woke up” to the
fact that I had to do something when my night sweats got really bad. I
couldn’t sleep. It was debilitating. At this point, I began to study hormones
and menopause.
Pam: And you knew it wasn’t a psychiatric condition?
Sherrill: Well, it became obvious it wasn’t a psychiatric condition. I began to
study the work of Dr. John R. Lee and to investigate medical journals. I
spoke to health practitioners, including Dr. Lee, so that I could get answers.
I found out that the night sweats were probably related to progesterone
deficiency. After using natural progesterone for about a month the night
sweats disappeared. This was pretty amazing! After about three months of
using natural progesterone, my anxiety and fatigue disappeared; my libido
increased and I lost weight. I was sleeping better. All of these improvements
were phenomenal!
Pam: Other than progesterone cream, what other nutrients or supplements
can a woman use to help support her hormones?
Sherrill: There are a variety of herbs that I like to recommend. Responses
vary from case to case, but generally women tend to do well with Vitex
(Chaste Tree berry), Maca and Rhodiola Rosea. When a woman is feeling
“out of balance” due to her hormones, she needs to address all of her
hormones (not just estrogen and progesterone). There are some amazing
nutrients that can help support the hormonal structure (Vitamin C, Vitamin E,
B Vitamins, Essential Fatty Acids etc…). It is important to keep in mind that
women are not “crazy” if they are feeling “out of balance” – their adrenals,
thyroid, blood sugar and liver all need attention.
Pam: “Misdiagnosis: Woman as a Disease” by Karen Hicks describes how
women have been treated by the medical establishment. The title of the book
is very telling. Women have been treated with arrogance and neglect by
doctors for many, many years.
Sherrill: For thousands of years, women have been perceived as having
“flawed” bodies. Even today, our body parts are being butchered. Even
childbirth seems to be treated as a disease. Sadly, C-sections have become
very trendy. Women are still subjected to the removal of their uterus,
ovaries, breasts, really for no good reason. Women are being told that their
body parts are “bad” or dangerous and that they must be removed. In so
doing, doctors remove their entire essence. With regards to menopause, the
perception is that women will simply fall apart as they arrive into this phase
of their lives. Menopause is not a disease. In the Victorian era, if women
were too talkative, too interested in sex or if they liked to dance too much,
physicians would remove their uterus, their ovaries or even their clitoris.
Also, during the Victorian era, women began to have the right to have
divorces and own their own properties. In order to circumvent their wives,
husbands would insist that they have hysterectomies so that they would
become more docile and passive. Women have a long history of being
mistreated by the medical establishment, and it continues to this very day. It
is estimated that close to 9 million women died during the Inquisition. They
were brutally killed. Why? Because they were the healers of the community.
In a sense, there is still an aspect of the Inquisition attitude existing today
because women’s freedom, women’s wisdom and natural approaches to
healing are still under attack.
Pam: Women are nurturers and healers. Women love to see people get well.
And, women will share their wisdom for free by recommending healing
remedies like dandelion. Weren’t the witch hunts were about executing the
women who were helping people get well for free?
Sherrill: The witch hunts were about going after the healers. For 300 years,
women were sought out, tortured and killed because of their wisdom, herbal
and spiritual knowledge. They could heal when the traditional medical
doctors of the time could not.
Pam: In essence, the body should have no flaws. It’s what we do to our
bodies that will determine disease or wellness. Medical doctors have told me
that in order to determine whether to surgically remove a woman’s
gallbladder, they follow what is known as the four “F’s”. I believe they stand
for “Female, Forty, Fair, and either Fat or Flatulent”. The other area that
shocks me is how women are treated in the psychiatric area. When a
women shows up with the conditions you are describing, psychiatrists are
prescribing anti-depressants such as Prozac. What if the woman is on a high
sugar, processed foods diet? What if the woman is on a low fat diet? What if
a woman isn’t eating enough high quality protein foods? These types of diets
are detrimental to both the physical and emotional well-being of men and
women. Drugs simply can’t repair the problems of a bad diet.
Sherrill: Doctors aren’t trained to tap into solutions other than prescribing
drugs for symptom relief or performing surgical procedures and tests. So, it’
s no wonder that they have been prescribing Prozac for symptoms such as
hot flashes, depression and anxiety. These symptoms are a result of
hormonal imbalances (primarily too much estrogen and too little
progesterone) and should not be treated with dangerous, toxic
pharmaceutical drugs. Anti-depressants have a lot of serious detrimental side
effects which include depression, anxiety, insomnia, low libido, nightmares,
suicidal and homicidal thoughts. A Canadian study has also shown that
women who take Paxil increase their risk of developing breast cancer by
70%.
Pam: Several years ago, Oprah Winfrey did a show on female sexuality. She
did what she called an “unscientific” study asking women to report whether
they had a weak or strong libido. I believe that approximately 2000 women
responded and that approximately 92% of the women said that they had
little to no libido. Women are suffering many side effects from being exposed
to poor diets, toxic chemicals and to using the birth control pill. You say that
taking the Pill is like female castration. Clearly, there are long-term side
effects from taking the Pill.
Sherrill: Initially, the Pill was designed for birth control. Now, the Pill has
become a popular therapeutic treatment for many of women’s ills.... It has
also become a treatment to help regulate periods, for PMS, for lack of
periods, for heavy periods, for painful periods, for ovarian cysts, for PCOS,
for endometriosis and perimenopause. Recently, a mother told me that the
doctor put her daughters on the Pill to increase their bust size! It is even
being prescribed to girls as young as 13 to treat acne. What few women
understand about the Pill is that the action of the Pill shuts off the ovaries by
mimicking pregnancy. The medical term is “chemical castration.” As long as
your ovaries are shut off while you are on the Pill, you will never have a
menstrual cycle. It is a terrible mistake for doctors to lead women to believe
that the Pill helps regulate their menstrual cycle. The vast majority of women
who take the Pill do not understand that they never get a period as long as
they are on the Pill. They have what is called a “forced bleed” not a natural
menstrual bleed. Most women, however, believe that they are menstruating
every month. The Pill also depletes the body of key nutrients (vitamins,
minerals, etc.) -- affecting her thyroid, compromising her bones, affecting her
pH, making her very acidic. The Pill is also made up of 2 cancer-causing
drugs. The high rates of infertility and decreased libido in women can be
directly related to the Pill.
Pam: As another form of birth control, women have been choosing the
injection, Depo-Provera, which consists of synthetic progesterone, or
progestin. What are the risks associated with this drug?
Sherrill: Well, for starters, EVERY woman I’ve met has experienced health
problems after using Depo-Provera. The side effects of this drug are very
serious. Not only is it recognized as a carcinogen, it is known to cause blood
clots, strokes, depression, loss of libido and weight gain. It causes excess
hair growth in unwanted areas. It also increases bone loss, which increases
the risk of osteoporosis. As reported in the British Medical Journal in 1989,
if a woman uses Depo-Provera before the age of 25, she increases her
relative risk of developing breast cancer by 50%. If a woman uses this drug
for more than 6 years, her relative risk of developing breast cancer increases
by 320%. Not only is it being prescribed as a contraceptive, it is also being
used to help stop heavy bleeding.
Pam: If a woman/couple chooses to use a natural form of birth control, what
would you recommend?
Sherrill: Every situation is different. However, there are alternatives to the Pill
or Depo-Provera. I must caution that there are no safe forms of the Pill.
Even if a woman uses a Pill, unless she has a committed partner, she will
need to use a condom to protect her from sexually transmitted diseases. By
the way, the Pill alters a woman's physiology so she is at greater risk of
getting STDs. I would encourage couples to explore natural birth control
techniques which I explain in my book.
Pam: We are bombarded with many different sources of estrogen not just
through pharmaceuticals, but through other environmental sources. Can you
elaborate on that?
Sherrill: It is known that 70% of all breast cancers are estrogen dependent.
In other words, it is caused or fueled by estrogen. Estrogen’s job is to
proliferate cell growth...so that’s what cancer is - out of control cell growth.
You’re right; there are many sources that have this estrogenic effect (the Pill,
hormone replacement therapy, fertility drugs, pesticides and plastics).
Phthalates are in everyday products like nail polish, hairspray, perfume, the
backing of carpets, spray paints, lubricants and solvents, and are found in
medical equipment, paints and packaging. Phthalates are known to be major
hormone disruptors which have also been linked to damage to the
reproductive system, and an increased risk of asthma and cancer.
Plastics contain Bisphenol A, a potent estrogenic chemical that is used to
harden plastics. Dentists often put sealant called Composite Resin over
children’s teeth that actually is made with Bisphenol A. This chemical is
leaching right into the body of children. The plastic in water bottles also
contain Bisphenol A which leaches into the water. Commercial cattle have
estrogen implanted into them so that they can accelerate their growth -
estrogen turns food into fat so it increases the rate of which the animals
grow. The fatter and bigger the animal -- the higher the price! Most of the
weight is water retention because that’s what estrogen does. So, we are
eating estrogen in our meat.
Pam: Can you elaborate on Bisphenol A?
Sherrill: The chemical, Bisphenol A, or BPA, is an artificial estrogen used to
create the plastic polycarbonate. It is also used in resins to line some metal
cans and in the manufacture of some dental sealants. It is commonly found in
hard plastic drinking glasses, some microwavable food containers and plastic
baby bottles. Geneticists at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland
showed that even low doses of BPA in adult female mice caused
chromosomal changes that could lead to birth defects. It is a very toxic
hormone disruptor which can alter development of the reproductive tract,
the immune system, increase prostate tumor proliferation, change brain
chemistry and structure and affect an array of behaviors, including
hyperactivity.
It is a chemical used to make plastic water bottles. It can easily leach out
into the water. Here is how you identify what bottles are safe: The very
bottom of the plastic bottle is a triangle and inside the triangle is a number. If
it is a number 1 (it normally says PETE with it), it is really made for one use
only because if you continue to use it, the plastic degrades and the molecules
leach into whatever substance is in that bottle increasing these toxic
Bisphenol A’s. The bottles that are in vogue today are the bottles called
Nalgene. These are made of the hard polycarbonate and are sold in a variety
of colors. If you look at the bottom there is a number 7 in that triangle. #7 is
a Bisphenol A plastic that will leach under ALL conditions, putting these
dangerous hormone-disrupting chemicals into the liquid. The #1’s leach most
when they are exposed to heat. So the number 2, 4, and 5 are what
consumers need to remember ...they are more stable but they can be harder
to find.
Pam: You also warn women about the side effects of Tamoxifen. What
should women know about this drug?
Sherrill: I have serious concerns about Tamoxifen. It’s the number one drug
prescribed to women to prevent the recurrence of breast cancer. There are
a couple of things that we need to know about it. In the year 2000,
Tamoxifen was added to the US. Government’s list of known human
carcinogens. Tamoxifen is known to cause uterine cancer, but women are
told not to worry because there is a really successful treatment for uterine
cancer – a hysterectomy. Tamoxifen causes strokes, blood clots and can
contribute to blindness (I know that personally because my sister-in-law
went blind when she was on Tamoxifen). If Tamoxifen is used for more than
5 years, the risk of developing breast cancer significantly increases. So, it
can cause the disease it is actually being used to treat.
