I drove five hundred miles
along a dark and lonely back road
to meet you in a cafe
at the local general store.
We stood and faced the South Pole
across from Cosy Corner
in a world that we created
by the silence of our breath.
You built a green flamed fire
and sat below the starlight
I wondered if you realized
it was the best night of my life.
You whispered a horse across a field
and mended a broken man
as water fell across garden rocks
and roses tried to bloom.
A song breaks free at the kitchen table
and a smile remembers to visit your face
as your arms expand and you begin to laugh
about times before and friends long gone.
You wondered if love was forever
before the veils covered your eyes
and I saw the barriers rise within you
and knew you would never risk it.
Sadness expressed like perverted beauty
A world too harsh - A life too lonely
takes a toll and casts its shadows
but, a heartbeat still wishes it well.
A Universe of only two
dreaming dreams again
Will love bring you home
when you recognize it?
Merge with me when I call thru the night
Weave yourself into my soul
and let destiny play its magic here

to present a phoney but acceptable face
You have shown me your essence-
authentically and honestly
and in you I see pure beauty

that have nothing to do with anything
Then I walk away - feeling cheated
that you didn't understand
what I didn't actually say

My Shining Star
(Taken for granted)
When I think of you I can’t help but think of you as “My Shining Star”. I
mentioned this to you years ago, but you have probably forgotten it. I
was reminded of it again today as I was thinking about what you said
recently. You were hurting and got yourself caught up in believing that
everyone took you for granted. You felt like you always had to try
harder and give the most to people who acted as if you barely existed.
I have long been aware of people’s ignorance or self-centredness and
have on occasion been rendered breathless by stinging remarks or
indifference. But you, my shining star, how can this happen to you?
You are like a bright light to me, a small twinkling light when everything
else is covered by darkness. So many times you have given me your
warmth or humour in such an easy manner that you just seem to
balance me out or pick me up. You never make a big deal out of it and
I suspect that mostly you don't even know you are doing it. It's just your
way.
I appreciate and respect your honesty and your keen insight and love
the fact that I can have a small tantrum and blow out some **##**%%#*
and never have you refer back to it or make me feel foolish about it. I
also know that you don't hold any agendas or debts with me and this is
rare and so deeply valuable to me because I know that no matter what
is going on “I can trust you”
So now you’re going through a little stage of feeling undervalued or
overlooked and God knows we all feel that way sometimes.
I’ve certainly had my moments, and it's often you who I turn towards. It’
s most likely that I don't even tell you that I’m feeling that way at the
time. But that shining starlight finds its way in and I come away from
you restored.
I don't think people are intentionally unkind, but they sure can be
thoughtless and selfish. This is about what's going on with them - it is
never about you - especially not about the value of you.
I hope you keep this note, if only somewhere in your memory, because
I want you to have a point of reference anytime you say things like, "All
People or No One or Always". No matter what you go through I hope
you always remember that someone does see you. I value you – I love
you.
